South African surfing experience

Surfing in and around East London To the south west, lies the Sunshine Coast, Port Elizabeth and Jeffrey’s Bay. To the north east, lies the Wild Coast and KwaZulu Natal. East London is a small river port city on the south east coast of South Africa, in the centre of an area blessed with mild weather, and good waves. In and around East London, are about thirty surfspots, including pointbreaks, reefbreaks and beachbreaks. Ask any South African surfer about Nahoon Reef and his eyes will light up as he describes it as an awesome righthander and one of the most consistent spots on the coast. Nahoon Reef, in the centre of East London, was once the scene of the Gunston 500 (now the Mr Price Pro). This amazing surfing zone has surfable waves breaking about 200 days of the year. As swell direction changes and conditions vary, so the venues change. Uncrowded conditions and mild weather make for an ideal place to visit and sample that which is on offer. The nearby Wild Coast consists of points and bays as far as the eye can see. This is home to the Xhosa people whose culture and traditions have remained largely untouched by modern society. Nearby Port Alfred provides powerful waves that need to be surfed to be believed. Jeffrey’s Bay? Say no more! Dawnpatrol South Africa runs surf tours based in East London, but covering the entire region. Comfortable accommodation, all meals, guides and transport are supplied. We move to where the waves are from J-Bay, right to KwaZulu Natal. Check out our website at www.dawnpatrol.co.za.
